One of the most important realizations and wisdoms in Budddhism is the insight into the connection between actions and their results (Skt. karma resp. karman). Buddhism provides plenty of basic as well as of detailed explanations on different kinds of actions. It is only the knowledge of the interdependence between a deed and its immediate as well as longterm result which enables us to act responsible, adequate, and righteous. As long as we do not learn to distinguish wholesome actions from unwholsesome and neutral ones we will not be able to attain real happiness and to overcome suffering completely.
